ETHIOPIAN OPAL IN QUARTZ 925 STERLING SILVER JEWELLERY

The most significant opal discovery in Ethiopia to date occurred in 2008 near the town of Wegel Tena in the Wollo Province in the north. The body hue of this opal might be transparent, white, yellow, orange, or brown, with brilliant play-of-color flashes. It is more stable than the opal from North Shewa. The term "welo opal" was immediately coined in the trade, but the terms "wollo" and "wello" have also been used.
