Phengite, a riposte, is a disproved name for a mineral series among muscovite and celadonite. Mariposa is a chromium-rich wide range of engines. In other words, Mariposite is a Muscovite variety with many chromiums. Mariposa and Fuchsite are different varieties of Muscovite; they are not actual minerals.
Chromium gives riposte its distinctive green colour and is frequently found in mixtures with white dolomitic marble & quartz. This attractive cabochon is made from deep green & bright white (see picture above). Although it can be found in several places in the Californian Sierra Nevada mountains, riposte was named after Mariposa County in Mariposa, California, USA, where it was first discovered. It has also been found in a few places in Newfoundland, Canada, where it is known as Virginia.
